How to Spend the Rest of Ramadan

By Abdul-Wahab Mubarak
The Holy month of Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed as guidance for the mankind, and criterion for distinguishing the truth from falsehood; the light from darkness; and the right conducts from the wrongs. The Quran says:
“The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion, so whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.” (Q2:185 cited from Sahih International Translation)
Ramadan is a highly venerated month that comes only once in a year and lasts for twenty-nine or thirty days. The enormously blessed month has a special, magnificent night, which is better than a thousand months. Hence, it is essential that we maximize our time in each day and night of this month.
As the golden month is counting daily, there is need to remember that time is melting. You are supposed to recall that if you maximized the time of this noble month, then at its end you will be happy that you have taken proper use of your time in the month, and thus hoping for Allah's rewards.
As Muslims, we should bring to our minds that our time in this earth is finite, predetermined and limited, and no one can boast of reaching the next second. So why do we like to waste our time thinking we will make it to the next Ramadan?
The state of some Muslims today is really disheartening; it was unfortunate that some Muslims sacrificed their Ishai and Taraweeh prayers for a mere football match some weeks ago. Truly ponder, think, reminisce and mull over the time you waste all in the name of fun. Do you gain anything?
Others are always engrossed with either their phones chatting or watching film. Although there is nothing wrong with watching educative channels or something educative, but it is rare to find them watching beneficial programs, but rather be they get engrossed with movies that won't add them in knowledge.
Have you forgotten that you will surely account for your deeds, how you spent your money, time…? Do you think it will be right for you to stand before your Maker (Allah) and you keep silent, whilst the fact is, it is really something that is baffling.
What are you doing with your Ramadan? Are you doing deeds, acts or things that are beneficial or otherwise? If otherwise, I want you to recall carefully that you never know which deeds can be your gateway to Jannah (Paradise), thus try to make use of this opportunity because the month is going to an end.
It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“There has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month which Allaah has enjoined you to fast. In it the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the strong devils are chained up. In it there is a night that is better than a thousand months, and whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.” (Narrated by Ahmad, 9213; al-Nasaa’i, 2106)
Even though the golden month is melting every second you can still maximize what remaining days. Dear brothers and sisters, let's try to maximize this golden month in the most beneficial way, so we won’t be among those who will be deprived of this Barakah. For a quote says:
"A positive thinker always finds opportunity in every difficulty while a negative thinker finds difficulty in every opportunity! It depends on which you choose?”
Jazakumul-Laahu khayran
